Best HHO Electrolyte
What's The best HHO Electrolyte (catalyst) for my Browns Gas / HHO Gas Generator?
Use an electrolyte that is best suited for your Brown's- HHO Gas generator design. The distance
between the electrode plates does really matter.
A - For electrodes with little distance between the plates you could use: tap water or distilled- rain-
or distilled water with a very little of any of the catalysts mentioned below.
B - For electrodes with more space between the plates tap water won't work. So use distilled- rain-
or distilled water with a little of the catalysts mentioned below.
C - For electrodes with a lot of space between the plates tap water won't work. Use distilled- rain-
or distilled water with a one of the catalysts mentioned below.
Spacing examples:
Close= 1.5 mm or 0.0625 inch,
Medium= 3-6 mm or 0.125 to 0.18 inch
large:= 6mm to 8 mm or 0.250 inch or greater

Advantages:
Available everywhere
Cheap
Safe
Disadvantages:
Water might turn brown with smudge on the electrodes
Minerals oxidize. Iron oxide turns the water brown due to Iron in the water
and ,makes an ugly brown residue.

2 - White Vinegar - acetic acid - H3C-COOH
Advantages:
Stainless electrodes stay clean
Available everywhere
Cheap
Safe
Disadvantages:
Smells
Available at your local grocery store.
A good mix for medium distance electrodes: 100% vinegar with (only if necessary) some baking
soda. (If so be careful, because the reaction will produce co2 gases!)

2 - Baking Soda ( sodium bicarbonate ) NaHCO3
Advantages:
Available everywhere at grocery and home improvement stores
Cheap
Safe
Disadvantages:
Electrodes and water might turn brown
Produces Co2 (30%) and Co (4%).
For this reason not recommended
Pure Baking Soda leaves a brown tinted residue.
Available at your local drugstore or grocery.

3 - Sodium Hydroxide also called Lye = NaOH
Advantages:
Electrodes stay clean
Cheap
95 - 100% pure Brown's Gas production with right generator design
Safe
recommended
Disadvantages:
Hazardous caustic soda. Requires careful handling. * See note below.
Not available everywhere
Pure sodium hydroxide is a white solid; available in pellets, flakes, granules and as a 50% saturated
solution. It is deliquescent and readily absorbs carbon dioxide from the air, so it should be stored
in an airtight container. It is very soluble in water with liberation of heat.
*Note: NAOH crystals are available at Home improvement stores as drain cleaner. One
brand that is OK is "Roebic" crystals drain cleaner.

4 - KOH
Also called potassium hydroxide.
Advantages:
Electrodes stay clean
95 - 100% pure Brown's gas production with right generator design
not much needed
Disadvantages:
Not available everywhere
dangerous to work with

General information to get the best results:
For the [ flat-plate-design] electrodes use pulse power to get more efficiency using less amps
making better gas production.
For a mid size car between 10 - 20 amps should give good results.
Do not try to get too much Brown's- HHO gas volume out of your generator by using a lot of amps
etc. It will certainly become overheated and your electrodes could be damaged. Or you will
generate steam. It is better to have a larger number of (small) generators to get the gas volume
you need. Or use a HHO generator with a pump system. Advantages: The generators will stay cool /
warm, uses less power, is safer and will last longer(!)
Your optimum draw should be several amps less when cold so keep adding little by little. until you
get to your optimum amp draw.
* Not recommended: Draino drain cleaner. It has other ingredients not suited for electrolyte, and
makes an ugly mess in your hydro generator cells.
